Casting for this summer’s world premiere production of Tanika Gupta’s Lions and Tigers, directed by Pooja Ghai, has been confirmed by Shakespeare’s Globe.
Opening on 23 August 2017, Tanika Gupta’s play is based on the true story of Tanika’s great uncle and freedom fighter Dinesh Gupta, playing at the Globe as part of the theatre’s Festival of Independence.
This dramatically relevant and authentic story is set against the backdrop of negotiations between the leaders of the Indian National Congress; the future Prime Minister Nehru wavers between his respect for Gandhi’s non-violence and his admiration for the youthful fervour of the militant Bengali nationalist, Subhas Chandra Bose.
The production is set to star Shubham Saraf, Sudha Bhuchar, Raj Bajaj, Shalini Peiris, Tony Jayawardena, Jaz Deol, Jonathan Keeble and Adam Best. Meanwhile, the creative team includes designs by Rosa Maggiora and music composed by Arun Ghosh.
Lions and Tigers will play at the Shakespeare’s Globe from 23 August until 16 September 2017.
