For the European premiere run of Selina Fillinger’s Faceless at the Park Theatre, PMJ Productions has partnered with non-profit organisation YOUTH CLUB on a free art exhibition reflecting some of the complex issues tackled in the play. Highlighting the power of the internet and its far-reaching consequences in the 21st century and inspired by a real events, Faceless follows the unexpected twists and turns of Susie (played by Fiona Gent), a suburban Chicago teenager who lives her life on the internet. In the play, Susie messages her “faceless” friend “I think I’m ready to convert – I know I need two witnesses for it to count so I Googled it”, leading her on a path of unexpected consequences… Faceless is based on a true story. The internet has no boundaries.
The accompanying art exhibition, now running in the corridor alongside Park90 until the end of the play’s run, has been curated by Faceless director and designer Prav MJ and YOUTH CLUB to showcase images that tackle issues highlighted in the play around self-identity and the relationship of young women to digital technology in the 21st century.
YOUTH CLUB is a non-profit organisation working to preserve, share and celebrate youth culture history. With thanks to Heritage Lottery Funding, YOUTH CLUB houses a newly renovated and fully researched photographic record of youth culture over the last 70 years.
The cast of Faceless are Fiona Gent (as Susie), Paige Round, Sam Thorpe-Spinks, Matt Mella and Fearon McElroy. The production is directed and designed by Prav MJ and has music composed by Jose Albela, with lighting by Gareth Prentice and sound by Joe Dines.
Faceless runs from 17 April to 13 May 2018 at the Park Theatre, Clifton Terrace, Finsbury Park, London N4 3JP, London SE1 7NN, with performances Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7.45pm, and Thursday and Saturday matinees at 3.15pm.
