Colette Eaton and Naomi Todd star as Harriet and Molly, two heartbroken women who jump between the pages of the same bonk-busting paperback – and play all the parts between them. Innocent maidens and haughty aristocrats ardently pursue each other through a tempestuous, gothic landscape, replete with murder, elopement and heaving bosoms a-plenty in Lavery’s tongue-in-cheek whirlwind parody.

HER ACHING HEART features brand-new, original music by Ian Brandon. The production is directed by Hope artistic director Matthew Parker and designed by Rachael Ryan, with lighting by Tom Kitney and sound by Paul Freeman. In a unique partnership for the Hope, the musical is co-produced by LWL Entertainment Ltd, whose recent West End credits include Sid, Savage and The Tailor-Made Man: A New Musical.

HER ACHING HEART runs at the Hope Theatre until 23 December 2016.

Sarah Tinsley: “At the end, I found myself welling up. Love is love, and all of the singing and corsets aside, a story about finding it and losing it is always going to be a good one.”

“Both performers are beautifully voiced and equally matched, with Harriet’s solo Good Manners along with the duetted It’s Spring – Hearts Mend being perhaps the musical highlights.”

Laura Kressly: “Eaton is a posh, plummy Harriet and Todd an earthy, animal loving Molly; they are excellent character foils, strong singers and full of energy and charisma.”

Ian Foster: “A simple, uncomplicated love story at its heart. Yes it is universal but yes, it is also unashamedly all the shades of the LGBTQ+ rainbow.”
