As part of her ongoing post-show Q&A series, Mates co-founder Terri Paddock will talk to writer-director (and Taggart creator) Glenn Chandler and the company of The Good Scout in its London transfer. Any questions?

After my post-show Q&A this time last year to Kids Play, I’m delighted to reunite with writer-director Glenn Chandler to talk about his latest award-winning Edinburgh Fringe transfer to Above the Stag, London’s home of LGBT theatre.

Inspired by extraordinary true events: The Good Scout is a story of espionage, Scout’s honour and forbidden love.

In the 1930s, Baden-Powell and Von Ribbentrop, Hitler’s ambassador, decreed that British Boy Scouts and Hitler Youth should learn from one another.

In Bassington, England, the local troop play host to a cycling party of Hitlerjugend – but are the German boys cyclists or “spyclists”? For Will and Jacob, two Rover Scouts on the cusp of manhood, it is a visit that will change their lives forever.

“This play…chooses not to dress itself up in simplistic notions of good and evil… In the guise of a Boy’s Own adventure, the piece is expertly layered, discussing friendship, espionage, fanaticism, homosexual persecution, and gay love in an era when it really was forbidden” – The Scotsman ★★★★

The Good Scout had its sell-out previews at Above the Stag before premiering at The Space at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, where it won the ScotsGay Magazine award for Best New Writing.

After the 7pm performance of The Good Scout at Above the Stag Theatre on Tuesday 29 October, I’ll talk to Glenn Chandler and the cast. Any questions? Join us!
