Here is a list of a few things that Love London Love Culture have enjoyed seeing this year so far, including, still running, Guys & Dolls, The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, In the Height and Aladdin.…
Guys and Dolls, Savoy Theatre: this is such a joyful production of this classic musical, that it is brilliant that it is still running in the West End (now at the Phoenix Theatre). If you are feeling low, then you need to see this happy and romantic musical.
Grey Gardens, Southwark Playhouse: what an absolute privilege to watch Jenna Russell and Sheila Hancock in this brilliant production! Funny and heartbreaking, this musical has to be the best off-west end musical produced this year – hands down.
Nell Gwynn, Apollo Theatre: the gorgeous costumes, the fascinating story and bawdy sense of humour made for a treat on a miserable night in March. All of the cast were outstanding and it would have been great if Jessica Swale’s play had been given a longer run in the West End. Hopefully it will come back again soon!
In the Heights, King’s Cross Theatre: vibrant, sexy, enjoyable, sharp this is one of the hottest musicals to hit London in recent years. The dancing is sharp and it certainly has managed to get a younger audience into the theatre – which is certainly a positive outcome!
The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, Criterion Theatre: the hilarious new hit from the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong, is designed to put a smile on everybody’s face in the best possible way! Mischief Theatre are definitely taking over the West End!
Aladdin, Prince Edward Theatre: featuring all the classic songs, this Broadway transfer has plenty to recommend it. It might not be quite what you are expecting, with a few changes made from the film. Worth seeing for the ‘A Whole New World’ sequence alone.
