The actress spoke to Love London Love Culture’s Emma Clarendon about starring in Trevor Nunn’s upcoming production of Fiddler On The Roof at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Hi Kirsty, thanks so much for talking to me. How are you feeling about being a part of this production of Fiddler On The Roof?
I’m thrilled to be a part of this production. It’s so exciting.

What was it that made you want to be involved with this production?
Everything! Fiddler On The Roof has always been one of my favourite musicals and the character of Chava, in particular, is a part that has been on my bucket list. That, paired with the amazing cast, production team and, of course, the Menier Chocolate Factory building has made it a real dream job.

How excited are you about working alongside Trevor Nunn on the musical?
It’s incredible. We’ve only been working for a few days and, already, I feel like I’ve learned so much, not only about the show and history of the piece but also about acting. It truly is a masterclass. His process is brilliant for an actor as you are given time to delve deep into the world of your character and make discoveries that will prove invaluable to the production.

Could you tell me a bit more about your character Chava and how you see her as a person?
I really admire my character, Chava. In a world where tradition is everything and women have a place to do as they are expected to do, she is willing to break the mould. She is learned, she reads and she is able to see past the constraints of her culture and accept other cultures.

Have you a favourite moment in the musical?
I love the opening of the show. It captures the community beautifully and immediately invites you into the world of the show.

What can audiences potentially expect from this production?
I think they can expect the show they know and love made special by the wonderfully intimate space of the Chocolate Factory. They can rediscover the pathos, humour and, ultimately heartbreaking reality of the piece and really feel part of the world of Anatevk.
