Unleash the Llama’s acclaimed, sell-out romantic comedy JEW…ish returns to London this month for six performances only at the King’s Head Theatre, running from Tuesday 14 January to Sunday 19 January 2020.
“We can’t stay together. You think the Gaza Strip is a burlesque act!”
TJ and Max are in love; with polyamory, substance-based escapism on the Portobello Road and the Israel-Palestine conflict. Occasionally even with one another. There’s just one thing: Max is Jewish. TJ isn’t. Watch as these mortal ‘frenemies’ navigate the cultural divide – amid death, pegging, and two millennia of inherited trauma.
JEW…ish is the twisted millennial romcom that absolutely no one asked for, striking a resounding chord with audiences and posing the one question that should never be answered: is it ever ok to get back with your ex?
This hit comedy, co-written by Saul Boyer and Poppy Damon, comes to the King’s Head Theatre after a sell-out season at the Gilded Balloon during the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe and summer preview dates at London’s Drayton Arms Theatre.

Boyer also stars, playing Max opposite Edie Newman as TJ. JEW…ish is directed by Kennedy Bloomer, recently appointed the new artistic director of the Hope Theatre, down the road from the King’s Head in Islington. It’s co-directed by Toby Hampton and designed by Cussy George, with sound by Tris Rothschild. The two-hander is produced by Zoe Weldon, assisted by Faith Donner.
What do critics say about JEW…ish? This ★★★★ “accomplished, spirited and genuinely hilarious play” (Fest Magazine) is also “charming and clever” (Broadway Baby) as it “revels in the dark corners of middle-class British Judaism and has you in its grip right until the end” (Jewish Renaissance).

About Unleash the Llama
Unleash the Llama, founded in 2014 by Saul Boyer and Sam Rayner, are a collective of theatre creatives with a diverse range of talents, who create ambitious theatre, TV and radio comedy that address emerging socio-political themes through idiosyncratically imaginative storytelling, often with a darkly comic tone and a historical bent.
