Fight or Flight Productions, one of the recently appointed associate companies at the relaunched Lion & Unicorn Theatre, brings its new writing debut, Tom Lodge’s Like You Hate Me to the north London venue next month.
Like You Hate Me, directed by Fight or Flight Productions co-founder Jess Barton, runs at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre in Kentish Town from 23 April to 4 May 2019, with a press night on 25 April.
“We were introduced at a party and hit it off from there. You know the type. Know what those couples are like.”
This is not a play about love.
It’s about loving/losing yourself/someone else.
It’s about how much you give to another person and how much you can’t ever get back.
Addressing the loss, development, and discovery of one’s identity through an ongoing and ever-changing life-long relationship, Tom Lodge‘s new play Like You Hate Me is a deeply honest reflection on life and love in all forms.
Challenging our idea of ‘the one’ and questioning our feelings of inadequacy in the face of a rigorous self-imposed life ‘plan’: questioning our successes, our failures, comparing our lives to others, and striving to meet the expected milestones that society tells us we should achieve.
Tom Lodge is a working-class writer and theatremaker from North Yorkshire, now based in London. Tom’s formally bold and politically-engaged work has been performed at Theatre503, Sheffield Theatres, and the Bunker Theatre. Tom has completed writers programmes with HighTide, the Royal Court, and Soho Theatre. Like You Hate Me was selected as part of the Longlist for the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2017.
The Fight or Flight premiere production stars Acushla-Tara Kupe and Aimee Kember. The play is produced by Ross Kernahan with all production elements, including set, sound, lighting and graphic design created by the Fight or Flight team.
Fight or Flight Productions
Founded in Brighton in 2012, Fight or Flight Productions began over a cup of coffee with the aim to create provocative and sensually gripping theatre by journeying into the dark spaces of our minds – stepping into the black, confronting the scary, reflecting the uncomfortable and making it home.
Following their 2017 production of Sam Steiner’s Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons at the Camden Fringe, Brighton Fringe and across several other London venues, which received five-star reviews, sell-out shows, and was also tipped as BritishTheatre.com and Broadway Baby’s Top Pick for the Brighton Fringe in that year.
Moving into 2019, Fight or Flight was announced as one of the Lion & Unicorn Theatre’s new associate artists, with the theatre now under the new management of David Brady of Proforça Theatre Company.
Fight or Flight is an unsubsidised company and, as all fringe theatre may be considered, a labour of love. However, with a commitment to professionalism, all persons attached to this performance are being paid above equity minimum for all performances/rehearsals. And with a view to accessibility, the company is offering under 25’s £10 tickets from 23-27 April.
Like You Hate Me runs from 23 April to 4 May 2019 at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre, 42-44 Gaisford St, London NW5 2ED, with performances (75 minutes) at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £10-15. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE!
