Like You Hate Me is the love affair we’ve all had and never quite got over,” says Plays to See (and occasional guest Mate) Emma Burnell. What have others been saying about the premiere of Tom Lodge’s two-hander? We’ve rounded up highlights from our favourite reviews and tweets. Time to get booking – must finish this Saturday!

This is not a play about love.

Addressing the loss, development, and discovery of one’s identity through an ongoing and ever-changing life-long relationship, Tom Lodge‘s new play Like You Hate Me is a deeply honest reflection on life and love in all forms. Acushla-Tara Kupe and Aimee Kember star, directed by Fight or Flight Productions’ Jess Barton.

Like You Hate Me runs from until 4 May 2019 at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre, 42-44 Gaisford St, London NW5 2ED, with performances (75 minutes) at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £10-15. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE!

Review highlights

Theatre & Art Reviews – ★★★★★

Elaine C: “These two extremely talented and perfectly cast actresses Acushia-Tara Kupe and Aimee Kember have one of the most incredible rapports on stage that I have seen in a while… [Tom Lodge’s] His eye for such detail and hugely mature approach to writing about relationships for a twenty-something writer shows huge potential for his future writings.”

Theatre Weekly – ★★★★

Greg Stewart: “The brutally honest and naturalistic style of the language makes Like You Hate Me feel not like a play that has been written, but a genuine account of two lives which have been lived… The chemistry between the two is quite startling, from the way they mirror each other’s actions to the synchronised expressions, their performances are riveting.”

Plays to See – ★★★★

Emma Burnell: “The acting is superb. This is a complex play and it asks a lot of the two women on stage (Acushla-Tara Kupe and Aimee Kember), but they both took it on unflinchingly. It is also beautifully written. Every word is so real and so true to every stage of love, betrayal, and heartbreak. The play is so universal… Like You Hate Me is the love affair we’ve all had and never quite got over.”
