Love London Love Culture’s Emma Clarendon picks out some of the shows on Broadway she wants most to see…
My Fair Lady, Lincoln Center
I know this is only on until 7 July 2019 but from footage I have seen, Bartlett Sher’s production looks absolutely stunning and from what I have heard it sounds it as well. It is one of my favourite musicals anyway – but this production would be worth just jumping on a plane for.
Tootsie, Marquis Theatre
Having recently won two Tony Awards and the fact that it is now booking until April 2020 has made me curious about just how good the musical is – but judging by the trailer it does look an awful lot of fun.
Pretty Woman the Musical, Nederlander Theatre
it would be easy to be sceptical about a musical based on the classic 90’s film about a prostitute and a millionaire falling in love – but that doesn’t stop me from being curious about how it all works on stage.
To Kill a Mockingbird, Shubert Theatre
Having missed Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s production, I’m even more curious to see how this classic, Pulitzer Prize-winning story is brought to life on stage.
Mean Girls, August Wilson Theatre
As a teenager, this film mad me laugh and occasionally cringe – but never did I think that it would be transformed into a Broadway musical. But just like Heathers the Musical, it seems to have gained quite a following.
Beetlejuice, Winter Garden Theatre
Who would have thought that Tim Burton’s quirky film would be transformed into a big musical? While reviews were mixed, Variety called it: “High-spirited fun, wickedly good tunes and eye-popping visuals make this night of the living dead a scream” – let’s hope it lasts on stage until I can get over to New York and catch it or myself.
