The hit ‘traumedy’ runs at the Canal Cafe Theatre from 5 to 8 December 2019.
Nearing 40 and living alone with her 13-year-old cat, comic and actress Amanda Broomell launched an Instagram experiment in the style of The Bachelorette, featuring tell-all videos about her adventures in online dating. Inspired by the overwhelming response, she channeled her experiences into a solo story, humorously exposing the challenges one faces in cultivating intimacy and trust with a partner while facing the obstacle of healing from past trauma. How many psychics, life coaches and bumble dates will it take to find THE ONE? The result is the raw and witty Mandy Picks a Husband.
When it ran at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, Better Lemons described Mandy Picks a Husband as “Jaw-dropping, belly-laughing, thoroughly moving, polished and heartfelt,” while in Edinburgh, Fringe Review said it was: “deeply moving … cleverly structured … and hilarious tale, with a heart of raw emotion.”
Broomell trained at New York University’s acclaimed Tisch School of the Arts and at Columbia University’s Classical MFA Acting Program. Her stage credits in the US include Juliet in Classic Stage Company’s Romeo And Juliet, Queenie in The Wild Party and Cherie in Bus Stop, both at Riverside Theatre.
