What’s Debbie looking forward to in October 2018?

It honestly doesn’t let up. At all. After an Edinburgh-focused August, and a ‘keep myself busy at all costs’ September (mostly to avoid the hell that is rush hour transport), October has rolled in, bursting at the seams because there is too much to do. And possibly not enough time to fit it all in…

London has a few new shows opening, including Windrush Square and All Aboard With Mr Windrush at the Blue Elephant Theatre, Schrödinger’s Dog at the White Bear, and Rallying Cry at Battersea Arts Centre. Les Enfants Terribles bring The Trench to Southwark Playhouse, The Height of the Storm transfers into Wyndham’s, and the stage adaptation of Zadie Smith’s White Teeth opens at the Kiln Theatre.

Outside of the capital, the Summer Holiday tour bus stops off at Carlisle’s Sands Centre, Saturday Night Fever dances into the Bristol Hippodrome, and Rip It Up – Dancing Through The 60s has a night at the Margate Winter Gardens.

Making way for some new shows are The Village (Theatre Royal Stratford East), Iris Theatre’s Arabian Nights (Hoxton Hall) and the Hogarth’s Progress double bill at Rose Theatre Kingston. The outdoor season at The Globe also comes to an end, with The Winter’s Tale, Othello, and Eyam all closing on the same weekend. Elsewhere, The Lovely Bones leaves Liverpool Everyman, Twelfth Night heads out of the Edinburgh Lyceum, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream finishes its run at Sheffield’s Crucible.

The ignorantly overpriced (and far too MT-centric) StageCon announced its postponement following worries that it was going to live up to the final three letters of its name. Hamilton’s new cast was revealed, with several new faces joining the London HamFam.

Any Other Business

I have an insane amount of other shows this month. I’ve already paid one visit to Hamilton, but I’ll be back with some friends at the end of the month. I’m also revisiting Wasted, Misty, Strictly Ballroom and The Winter’s Tale, as well as the new tour of Let It Be. I also get to see James Graham’s Sketching, Wise Children (first of several), Twelfth Night (including a review for BroadwayWorld UK), Measure for Measure at the Donmar (ticking this Shakespeare off the list), the RSC’s Macbeth at the Barbican, the semi-staged Guys and Dolls at the Royal Albert Hall (again, for BroadwayWorld UK), and Pinter 1 & 2.

BroadwayWorld also takes me out of town to Chichester, this time to review Cock at the Minerva Theatre (I’m aware of how dodgy that sounds).

Outside of theatre, I’ve already managed to see Sara Pascoe’s live show LadsLadsLads at Richmond (if you can get to see her on tour anywhere near you I highly recommend it), plus I should be at the launch for Come From Away, and I’m treating myself to lunch at the Swan on the last day of Globe season (definitely the best way to prepare for a cold afternoon as a groundling!).
