After One Who Wants to Cross at the Finborough in February, I’m thrilled to chair the post-show talk for another new play care of Clarisse Makundul Productions, Makundul’s own Under the Kundè Tree at Southwark Playhouse Borough.
Under the Kundè Tree is set in the 1950s during the secret Cameroonian war of independence. It follows Sara, a young woman, struggling to strike a balance between her heart’s desire and the pressure to fulfil traditional familial obligations.
Tackling difficult issues of colonialism, identity and freedom, this story explores themes of contemporary relevance, whilst reading an overlooked and often unknown period of history. Ebenezer Bamgboye directs.
Following the 8pm performance of Under the Kundè Tree on Thursday 1 June 2023, I’ll talk to writer and producer Clarisse Makundul and the company. Any questions? Join us!
