As part of her post-show Q&A series, Mates co-founder Terri Paddock will talk to actor-turned-director Nigel Harman along with Emily Bruni and Shaun Dooley, the stars of his just-opened, Mates-acclaimed Steven Berkoff double bill, Lunch and The Bow of Ulysses at Trafalgar Studios after the evening performance this coming Monday 17 October 2016. Got any questions? Book tickets to join her via the links below.

Witness a couple meeting for the first time, on a bench in a park near the sea.
Then find them again years later, and experience through them the paradoxical isolation and partnership that comes after two decades of coupledom.

Lunch and its sequel The Bow of Ulysses are two of Berkoff’s wittiest and insightful small pieces examining the pain and the humour within the most intimate of human relationships.

Directed by actor-turned-director Nigel Harman and starring Shaun Dooley (Broadchurch) and Emily Bruni (Peep Show), this promises an exciting and provocative presentation of Berkoff’s masterful writing.

Speaking about the plays, Nigel Harman said:

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity of working on two of Steven Berkoff’s rarely performed short plays, When I first read them, I was struck by the caustic beauty of the writing. Berkoff manages to amuse, horrify and move all in one sentence. And his instinct for the human condition, with all it’s flaws and wonders, is unique. I’m intrigued to put these plays on stage and see how an audience will react. They are a challenge to watch. Some people will laugh and enjoy the theatricality of them. Others may find them uncomfortable in the way they hold a dark mirror up to relationships. One thing’s for sure, they don’t pull any punches.”

For the post-show Q&A on Monday 17 October, Terri will be joined by Nigel Harman, producer Jimmy Jewell and the show’s two stars, Shaun Dooley and Emily Bruni.
