The Bush Theatre is celebrating two recent successes transferring to the West End and New York. The award-winning Edinburgh Festival Fringe hit Baby Reindeer follows a sold-out season at the Bush last year by transferring to the West End’s Ambassadors Theatre from 2 April 2020 (press night is 6 April). The production then moves to BAM’s Fishman Space in New York from 21 May.
The Bush Theatre’s Olivier Award-nominated production of Misty by Arinzé Kene which transferred to Trafalgar Studios following success at the Bush Theatre will open at The Shed, New York from 24 September to 24 October.
When award-winning comedian Richard Gadd offers a stranger a free cup of tea, he has no sense of the nightmare to come. One act of kindness. Six years of torment. The sell-out smash hit of last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, Baby Reindeer is the “blistering” debut play (The Daily Telegraph) from Gadd (Monkey See Monkey Do, Netflix’s (Sex Education).
Presented by Francesca Moody Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions in association with the Bush Theatre Baby Reindeer is directed by Olivier Award-winner Jon Brittain (Rotterdam). The production will play a strictly limited London run at the Ambassadors Theatre from 2 April to 2 May 2020 with over 500 tickets each week priced at £25 or less. The New York production is presented by Francesca Moody Productions in association with Bush Theatre, Julie Clare Productions and SEARED.
Also in the creative team are designer Cecilia Carey, lighting designer Peter Small, sound designer Keegan Curran and video designer Ben Bull.
Arinzé Kene (Death of A Salesman (Young Vic), Girl from The North Country (Old Vic and West End) and author of Little Baby Jesus) stars in Misty. Written by Kene and directed by Omar Elerian, Misty fuses live music, spoken word, and absurdist comedy into an exhilarating journey through the dark alleyways of a city in flux and a genre-defying excavation of the pressures and expectations that come with being an artist in our time.
Part poem, part concert, part confession, Misty was hailed as “one of the great theatre success stories of 2018” (The Guardian) when it was first developed by and premiered at London’s Bush Theatre before transferring to the West End and garnering nominations for Olivier Awards for Best New Play and Best Actor. For the US premiere, The Shed has commissioned the creative team to evolve the narrative into a new production for New York audiences.
