The UK theatre industry is officially in lockdown, following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s statement – advising the British public that they should avoid pubs, clubs and theatres to stop the spread of coronavirus – and an announcement from the Society of London Theatre and UK Theatre that all member venues would close from the evening of Monday 16 March 2020 until further notice.
Among the huge number of venues forced to close are many Off West End and Fringe spaces that My Theatre Mates works with on a regular basic, including the Trafalgar Studios, Vault Festival, Soho Theatre, Charing Cross Theatre, Playground Theatre, Finborough Theatre and Park Theatre, to name but a few. We are sending them all our best wishes at this impossibly tough time and will be on hand to show our support in the months to come.
My Theatre Mates have been collecting official announcements of theatre closures up and down the country in the Twitter thread below and will continue to add updates as they come in.
