CtrlAltRepeat’s award-winning immersive theatre show Viper Squad, a lovingly-crafted, tongue-in-cheek homage to 1980s action classics and point-and-click adventure games, is back every Friday from 29 January 2021. Viper Squad: Remastered takes the original and dials it all up to 11.

If you missed the first run via Zoom, or just want to get back to the action-packed 80s as soon as possible, this is your chance. Complete with more content, different paths, and injected with an even larger dose of high-octane-non-stop-action, that’s Viper Squad: Remastered.

Grab your aviators and your tiny little umbrellas because the Squad is back, baby! It is 1988. You are the new batch of recruits to Viper Squad, the highly effective paramilitary corporation that New York has turned to in response to a bank robbery in progress on Wall Street. Do YOU have what it takes?

Viper Squad: Remastered is directed by David Alwyn and the company’s founder and artistic director Sid Phoenix and is developed by the cast from a story by James Dillon, with original music by Rachel Waring. Costume co-ordinator is Suzanne Knight and original artwork is by Rebekah Finch.

The Viper Squad cast changes constantly in order to preserve the excitement and mystery for those who come to the show more than once. It is made up of the following CtrlAltRepeat company members: David Alwyn, Joanna Brown, Adam Blake, Andrew Caley, Olivia Caley, Edward Cartwright, James Dillon, Rebekah Finch, Sid Phoenix, Anna Sambrooks, Will Thompson-Brant and Rachel Waring.

The original Viper Squad ran in October and November of 2020. It received multiple rave reviews (including two on My Theatre Mates from Debbie Gilpin and Louise Penn) and received an #OnComm award from the Off West End Awards. The show is also currently a finalist in the Immersive/Interactive category at the Off West End Awards 2020, taking place on 21 February 2021.

Just read a few of the reactions from audience members:

  • “Highly recommend this show! Had a fantastic time” – Rob Myles, founder of The Show Must Go Online
  • “Fab interactive theatre done with style and flair” – Matt Dennis
  • “One of the best pieces of immersive theatre I have ever seen – from the comfort of my own home” – Teegan Hurley

CtrlAltRepeat’s debut performance, Midsummer Night Stream, was one of the very first theatrical shows to ever take place over Zoom. Directed by Phoenix, it was performed on 11 April 2020 to thousands of people all over the world and garnered rave reviews. Even now, the performance is still regarded as “visionary” and has been described as being “months ahead of its time” in the rapidly evolving history of online theatre.

After two more successful productions the company decided to try something new and moved into the immersive theatre space. Their first original piece, Sherlock Holmes And The Case Of The Symmetric Mailshot, was exceedingly ambitious, and a huge risk. No one knew whether the Zoom format could withstand something of the scale more usually associated with in-person immersive theatre.

Viper Squad: Remastered

Wildly successful both critically and commercially, the run extended no less than three times, culminating in the company’s first major award when it was recognised with an Online Commendation from the Off West End Awards.

Sherlock Holmes And The Case Of The Symmetric Mailshot cemented them as purveyors of the finest escapism and allowed the audience to disappear in to an immersive experience unlike any other.

Then came Viper Squad and now Viper Squad: Remastered. The new version keeps everything that made the original so successful – the humour, the larger than life 1980s atmosphere, the edge-of-your-seat action – and makes some changes that the creators feel can only improve the experience, and increase the value of coming back again and again.
