As he opens Flowers for Mrs Harris – his final production as Artistic Director of Sheffield Theatres, Daniel Evans today announces the cast for the forthcoming regional première of Mike Bartlett’s Contractions. Lisa Blair directs Rose Leslie (Emma) and Sara Stewart (Manager). The production opens on 27 June, with previews from 23 June, and runs until 16 July.

Sheffield Theatres presents the regional première of Contractions, a dark and funny play about intrusion, management and ever-decreasing privacy, by Olivier Award-winning writer Mike Bartlett.
Mike Bartlett is an award-winning playwright. He is currently Associate Playwright at Paines Plough, and has previously held the role of Writer in Residence at the National Theatre (2011), and Pearson Playwright in Residence at the Royal Court Theatre (2007). Rose Leslie plays Emma. Her theatre work includes Bedlam (Shakespeare’s Globe) and Mixed Up North (Out of Joint). Her television work includes Luther, The Great Fire, Blandings, Utopia, Game of Thrones, Vera, Downton Abbey and New Town (Scottish BAFTA for Best New Talent); and for film, Sticky Notes, Morgan, The Last Witch Hunter, Honeymoon and Now is Good.
Sara Stewart plays Manager. Her many theatre credits include Jumpy (Theatr Clwyd), Dinner With Friends (Park Theatre), The Snow Queen (Rose Theatre Kingston), Enron (West End and Tour), Six Degrees of Separation (Old Vic), The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other (National Theatre), The Pain and the Itch and Etta Jenks (Royal Court), Proof (Donmar Warehouse), A Month in The Country and Troilus and Cressida (RSC), Outcry (Cheek By Jowl), Heartbreak House (Chichester Festival), Sly Fox, Lady Windermere’s Fan, Dear Brutus and While the Sun Shines (Pitlochry Festival Theatre). Her television credits include, Dr Foster, Quirke, Fresh Meat, Rebus, NCS Manhunt, Crocodile Shoes, and Drop the Dead Donkey.
Lisa Blair directs, marking her directorial debut. Blair was Daniel Evans’ Associate Director on American Buffalo (Wyndham’s Theatre). She has also been Associate to directors including Rupert Goold, Michael Grandage and Nicholas Hytner.
