A brand-new production of Joe Penhall’s brilliant 2007 play Landscape With Weapon – about the moral dilemma faced by a scientist involved in creating weapons of mass destruction – will run at London’s Cockpit Theatre from 13-18 September 2022, directed by Jason Moore and presented by OnBook Theatre.
Penhall’s play Landscape With Weapon is more prescient than ever, given today’s war in Ukraine and the unprecedented use of drones. This compelling work will leave the audience questioning the moral justification of using science to kill, says the company.
To his family’s horror, Ned reveals he’s the brains behind a new military drone technology so sophisticated, so extraordinary, it will revolutionise the nature of warfare. It’s only when the Ministry of Defence demands intellectual ownership that Ned begins to question himself, resisting the might of the weapons industry with frightening consequences.
The cast line-up is James Robinson (Braveheart), Danny Szam (Skins, The Borgias), Suzy Bloom (Emma, Cats, Chicago) and Malcolm Jeffries (God of Carnage).
Director Jason Moore is joined in the creative team by set designer Ian Nicholas and lighting/sound designer Jonny Danciger.
OnBook Theatre was founded in 2021 by director/producer Moore and producer/playwright Ian Nicholas. The company recently produced Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage to critical acclaim. Their next production is Neil Simon’s Californian Suite at OSO Arts Centre in February 2023. You can follow OnBook via Instagram for updates for update.

Penhall’s first stage musical was the Olivier Award-winning Sunny Afternoon (Hampstead Theatre, West End).
