The Young Vic has today (14 August 2015) announced new casting for several of its upcoming productions, including:
- John Heffernan as Macbeth, Anna Maxwell Martin as Lady Macbeth in Carrie Cracknell & Lucy Guerin’s production
- Paul Ready and Zubin Varla join Romola Garai in Measure for Measure directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins – additional performances on sale now
- Emily Barclay and Sam Troughton return to Young Vic in Marguerite Duras’ La Musica
- Strindberg’s Creditors features Jolyon Coy, Tom Rhys Harries and Gyuri Sarossy
Macbeth – John Heffernan (seen in the West End earlier this year’s in the RSC’s Oppenheimer – pictured; TV’s Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell) will play Macbeth with award-winning Anna Maxwell Martin (South Riding; Poppy Shakespeare) taking the role of Lady Macbeth on our Main stage 26 November 2015 – 16 January 2016.
The other actors and dancers joining this bold vision of Shakespeare’s tragedy include Mark Ebulue, Thomasin Gulgeç, Ira Siobhan Mandela, Ana Beatriz Meireles, Prasanna Puwanarajah and Clemmie Sveaas. A co-production with Birmingham REP and HOME in Manchester, the production will run at Birmingham Repertory Theatre Tuesday 26 – Saturday 30 January 2016 and at HOME Tuesday 2 – Saturday 6 February 2016.
Measure for Measure – Romola Garai (Isabella) will play alongside Paul Ready as Angelo and Zubin Varla as the Duke in Joe Hill-Gibbins’ production of Measure for Measure. The cast also includes Hammed Animashaun (Elbow/Provost), Tom Edden (Pompey), Ivanno Jeremiah (Claudio), John Mackay (Lucio), Sarah Malin (Escalus), Natalie Simpson (Juliet), Cath Whitefield (Mariana) and Matthew Wynn (Barnardine). Due to demand, extra performances have been added. It will now run 1 October to 14 November.
La Musica – Emily Barclay and Sam Troughton play an estranged couple in Marguerite Duras’ most famous play La Musica. Emily Barclay played Natasha in Benedict Andrews’ 2012 production of Three Sisters at the Young Vic and has won many awards in New Zealand and Australia for her work in film and on television.
Sam Troughton returns to the Young Vic following his acclaimed performance in Mike Bartlett’s Bull as well as appearing as Tuzenbach in Three Sisters. The play is directed by Jeff James and is a ‘Classics for a New Climate’ production. It runs in our Maria studio 24 September to 17 October.
Creditors – Rikki Henry’s production of Creditors by August Strindberg in an adaptation by David Greig will feature Jolyon Coy as Tekla, Tom Rhys Harries as Adolph and Gyuri Sarossy as Gustav. Rikki Henry won the Genesis Future Directors Award for 2015. The play runs 9 to 19 September in our Clare studio.
