The cast for the return of The Toxic Avenger The Musical has been announced as the production prepares to open at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe before its West End transfer this autumn.
Final casting for the transfer of the musical, running at the West End’s Arts Theatre from 28 September to 3 December 2017 following a successful UK premiere at the Southwark Playhouse, has been confirmed.
Joining Mark Anderson, who returns to the production after creating the role of Melvin/Toxie in the original London production, will be: Natalie Hope, Emma Salvo, Oscar Conlon-Morrey and Ché Francis with Peter Bindloss and Sophia Lewis as swings/understudies.
Toxie is a seven-foot mutant freak with superhuman strength and a supersized heart to match. He’s out to save New Jersey, end global warming, win the heart of the prettiest (blindest) librarian in town and get home in time for dinner in this toxic love story with an environmental twist.
Directed by Benji Sperring, The Toxic Avenger is based on Lloyd Kaufman’s cult 1984 comedy and includes songs such as “Who Will Save New Jersey?” “Get the Geek”, “Thank God She’s Blind” “Hot Toxic Love” and “Choose Me, Oprah!”.
The production also features lighting by Nic Farman, choreography by Lucie Pankhurst as well as a book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music and lyrics by David Bryan . It is produced by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment and Derek Nicol and Paul Walden for Flying Entertainment.
