Chamber Opera Chicago, a professional not-for-profit opera company devoted to making great opera and musical theatre affordable, is excited to be performing its original musical adaptation of Jane Austen’s PERSUASION throughout the UK and Scotland this month, including a one-off performance at London’s Shaw Theatre on Wednesday 27 July 2016.

PERSUASION is one of Jane Austen‘s most admired novels – the story of a woman who has lost at love and gets a second chance.

Written at the height of Austen’s literary career, PERSUASION is one of the most compelling love stories ever penned. Anne Elliot has rejected a proposal of marriage from the one man she truly loved, Captain Frederick Wentworth. She was persuaded by her godmother that Captain Wentworth was unworthy, but after a separation of nearly a decade, he returns from sea with both rank and fortune. Anne is nearly an old maid and her once rich family faces bankruptcy. Can Anne win him back? Can he forgive her? Can their lost love be rekindled?

This musical stage adaptation, previously seen at the Edinburgh Fringe, has toured multiple UK and US cities over the past four years. This summer it returns to the UK with 40 artists: singers, dancers and a ten-piece orchestra.

In addition to London, the production’s 2016 UK dates include Aberdeen (16 July), Stirling (19 July), York (22 July), Stratford-upon-Avon (24 July) and Lyme Regis (29-30 July).

With adaptation by Barbara Landis, and music from Austen’s original manuscripts, this fully staged production features a chamber orchestra with Celtic and period instruments, authentic costuming and sets, beautiful projected scenery, and world-champion Irish dancers from the Trinity Irish Dance Company.

This widely acclaimed stage production features Direction by Nick Sandys (Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago) assisted by Kyle Dougan, Musical Direction by Linda Madonia, Choreography by Sara Stewart Schumann and Projected Scenery Design by John Boesche.
