Fabulett 1933, a new queer one-person musical set in Weimar Berlin, gets its postponed premiere at Camden Fringe, running at London’s Canal Cafe Theatre for three performances only on 8, 13 and 14 August 2021.
Berlin, February 1933, the new German leadership orders the closure of all cabarets. But Felix, the emcee of the depraved Fabulett, still has a story to tell. He has felt different all his life – as a son, as a soldier and as a lover – and now has to abandon the only place where he has ever felt like he belongs.
Set at the transition from one of the most liberal societies of its time with the world’s first gay rights movement, where the first queer anthem was composed, one of the first gay-themed movies was made, and the first gender-affirming surgeries were performed, to one of the biggest tragedies in human history, Fabulett 1933 deals with the fragility of achievements of society and the struggle of visibility.
Fabulett 1933 is a one-person musical written and performed by Swiss-born Michael Trauffer (he/him), under the musical direction of Sarah Morrison (she/her; Soho Cinders; Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical).
The original story, set around true events, features English versions of songs classified as ‘degenerate’ by the Nazis and composed by Mischa Spoliansky and Friedrich Hollaender, as well as original music written by Michael Trauffer. All music is co-arranged by Sarah Morrison.
Fabulett 1933 has been developed since early 2018 and, prior to Covid, was scheduled to premiere at the 2020 Edinburgh Fringe.
During Camden Fringe 2021, Fabulett 1933 runs at Canal Café Theatre, Delamere Terrace, London W2 6NG, with performances (55 minutes) on 8 August at 7pm, 13 August at 5pm and 14 August at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £10 (£8 concessions). CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE!
