NEWS: William Houston & Catherine McCormack lead new cast of The Ferryman

New casting has been announced for the extended West End season of Jez Butterworth‘s critically acclaimed new play The FerrymanDirected by Sam Mendes, the premiere production is currently booking at London’s Gielgud Theatre until 6 January 2018. Tickets for the new dates are now on sale via MyTheatreMates.

From 9 October 2017, William Houston takes over from Paddy Considine as Quinn Carney, alongside Sarah Greene and Catherine McCormack, taking over from Laura Donnelly and Genevieve O’Reilly as his sister-in-law Caitlin and wife Mary Carney, respectively.

Also new to 37-strong The Ferryman cast are: Maureen Beattie (as Aunt Maggie Far Away), Charles Dale (Father Horrigan), Laurie Davidson (Shane Corcoran), Ivan Kaye (Tom Kettle), Mark Lambert (Uncle Patrick Carney), Fergal McElherron (Frank Magennis) and Glenn Speers (Lawrence Malone).

Continuing are Fra Fee, Stuart Graham, Carla Langley, Conor MacNeill, Rob Malone, Dearbhla Molloy and Niall Wright. The full company comprises 17 main adults, seven covers, twelve children in rotation and one baby.

Rural Derry, 1981. The Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest. A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor.

The Ferryman won widespread critical acclaim when it was first seen at the Royal Court, where it opened in May 2017 and was the fastest-selling show in the theatre’s history. This phenomenal success has continued at the Gielgud Theatre where it has been playing to sold-out houses.

The Ferryman is directed by Sam Mendes, designed by Rob Howell, with lighting by Peter Mumford, and sound and original music by Nick Powell. It’s produced in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions, Neal Street Productions and Royal Court Theatre Productions. £12 Day seats including the entire front row are available for each performance from 10.30am in person at the Gielgud Theatre Box office.
