We’re counting down to the London premiere of American playwright Madeleine George’s 2009 all-female three-hander Precious Little this week. While you were enjoying your Bank Holiday Weekend, sneak a peek at what the cast was getting up to in rehearsals. Time to get booking!
Precious Little runs for a strictly limited season at London’s Brockley Jack Studio Theatre from 29 May to 15 June 2019, with a press night this Friday 31 May. It’s directed by Brockley Jack artistic director Kate Bannister and presented by the same in-house team of the multiple Offie-nominated productions of Kes, Lifeboat and The Wolves of Willoughby Chase.
“Wanna come with me to the zoo?”
Brodie, a gifted research linguist, is expecting her first child. When she receives unsettling news about the baby she carries. Her girlfriend is unsympathetic and the medical profession provides few answers. Brodie’s search for guidance leads her to two unlikely sources: the elderly speaker of a vanishing language… and a gorilla at the zoo.
Madeleine George’s irreverent, witty and startlingly original play reveals the beauty and the limits of human language. Precious Little was first produced in 2009 by New York’s Clubbed Thumb Theatre and has also been staged in other US cities including Chicago and Pittsburgh.
