What’s bloody hot. What’s bloody cheap. What’s bloody hot and cheap.

BLOODY MINDED

Get-your-Kit-off Harington’s Game-of-Thrones themed Doctor Faustus is full-on for gore and nudity.  Jamie Lloyd’s production may be a bit empty-hearted but for sure it’s a new and aggressive take on a very old pact with the devil, and Harington is rock-god hot.  Duke of York’s Theatre, £15 tix on Mondays.

BLOODY AWESOME

Shakespeare gets a modernized kicking this time in the open air. Kneehigh founder and radical Emma Rice bends genders, swaps Athens for Hoxton and drafts in musical help from David Bowie for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and a glorious crazed comic Titania from the ever-subversive Meow-Meow. Shakespeare’s Globe: £5 to stand, from £8 to sit.

BLOODY TOXIC

Even if you never heard of 1984 cult horror flick The Toxic Avenger you’ll love its hilarious tongue-in-green-cheek version at Elephant and Castle. A spoof all-American high school musical with a tonnage of double takes and gags, a masochistic sex-mad mayor, nuclear waste and Oprah Winfrey. Southwark Playhouse £20/25.

BLOODY SCIENCE

Three top-form actresses (Zoe Wanamaker, Barbara Flynn, Nina Sosanya) in a Elegy, a fluid elegant piece with wit, rage and scientific theory compressed into 70 spellbinding minutes by Nick Payne who wrote the amazing Constellations. Oh, and time goes backwards. £7.50 standing anytime, £10 front row seats released every Monday at 10am.

BLOODY MURDER

Before the National Theatre gets its teeth into Threepenny Opera, the cool modern venue right by Finsbury Park tube steals a march with a rock-and-Dylan riffed version set during the 2012 Olympics where Macheath is a casual killer of the homeless and a scrawny guitarist. However The Busker’s Opera is the best new musical score for ages and the beauty of the Park Theatre: no seat more than £25.
