This beautifully written show about the life of Judy Garland, written and directed by Ray Rackham, had a run at the London Theatre Workshop last year and is now back in town – this time at the Southwark Playhouse, where it continues until 30 July 2016. Does it still dazzle and mesmerise critics?

The Stage: ★★★★ Paul Vale wrote: “Rackham’s play may cover old ground but its structure, scoring and three powerhouse performances make this an unmissable production.”

Female Arts: “Ray Rackham who wrote and directed Through The Mill has done a marvellous job of interweaving the layers of storytelling, giving each ‘Judy’ her own opportunity to shine, yet teasing out the common threads in each.”

British Theatre.com: ★★★★ Douglas Mayo commented that: “Through The Mill is a triumphant look at the life of Judy Garland. It’s a wonderful evening in the theatre that will thrill fans and non-fans alike.”

Broadway World.com: ★★★★ “With tickets costing £20, just one Judy would justify the price, let alone the three we are presented with who, between them, capture the fragility and passion that will never allow us to forget the great Judy Garland.”

The Upcoming: ★★★★ “It is an excellent example of an original play that matches crowd-pleasing punch with a fundamental artistic integrity that brings out the universal depth of its subject matter.”

West End Wilma: ★★★★★ “Heartwarming funny and totally enchanting, Through the Mill is a must see, not only for Judy Garland fans, but for anyone who wants to enjoy a fabulously written and wonderfully performed drama.”

Everything Theatre: ★★★★★ “This show is slick, fast paced, well thought out and probably the best thing I’ve ever seen at the Southwark Playhouse.”

London Theatre 1: ★★★★★ “Through The Mill has all the hallmarks of a huge hit; a supremely talented cast, an original and fascinating story and high class production values. This may well be Judy Garland’s biggest comeback yet.”

Jonathan Baz: ★★★★ “So much more than just a story weaved around Judy Garland’s timeless songs, Ray Rackham has turned out a gorgeous piece of thrilling theatre.”

Musical Theatre Review: ★★★★ “Future portrayals of Judy Garland will now find themselves compared to Through the Mill, and will have to work hard to match its standard.”
