How many Shit-faced shows have you seen? 2019 marks the biggest-ever Shit-faced season at their London home base at Leicester Square Theatre. This week, Shit-faced Shakespeare: Hamlet follows Shit-faced Showtime: Oliver with a Twist and The Taming of the Shrew. Here’s a reminder of all the drunken fun to date. Time to booking for round three!
A favourite at Leicester Square Theatre for the past four years, the hard-drinking thespians of Magnificent Bastard Productions are back this week to ham up Hamlet for a run from 19 June to 14 September 2019, with a press night this Friday 21 June.
Think you know Hamlet? The story of a whiny lad who goes a bit loopy and does some stabbings, featuring foul language, outrageous behaviour, terrible singing, rapidly expelled bodily fluids and dangerous swordplay, Shakespeare has long been considered ‘cultural’. Instead, think of it like Game of Thrones with fewer boobs (probably).
In addition to this London’s seasons offerings, the company’s many other 70-minutes hits – which are also simultaneously mounted in international productions in the US, Australia and elsewhere – include Shit-faced Shakespeare versions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth.
Oliver with a Twist
A sell-out at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe, this pissed-up musical hit returned to Leicester Square Theatre from 27 March to 12 April 2019, starring Jessica Hern, Hal Hillman, Alan McHale, Nick Moore, Elizabeth Rowe and Issy Wroe Wright. All photos by Rah Petherbridge.
The Taming of the Shrew
The Magnificent Bastards’ opening Shakespeare offering for 2019 was The Taming of the Shrew which ran from 17 April to 1 June, starring Stacey Norris, Saul Marron, Briony Rawle, Lucy Farrar, Rob Smythson, Will Seaward, Matthew Seager and Jack Forsyth-Noble.
Shit-faced Shakespeare: Hamlet stars David Ellis, Natalie Boakye, Madeleine Schofield, Christopher Lane, Richard Hughes, Beth-Louise Priestley, Simi Egbejumi-David, Saul Marron and Stacey Norris, who also directs and produces.
Shit-faced Shakespeare: Hamlet runs from 19 June to 14 September 2019 at Leicester Square Theatre, 6 Leicester Place, London WC2H 7BX, with performances (70 minutes) Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7pm. Tickets are priced £16.25-£20.75. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE!
