Luck Be A Lady is a one-woman extravaganza that explores the stratospheric successes of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra from the perspective of the powerful women who made it happen. It’s coming to north London’s Upstairs at the Gatehouse for a strictly limited run this October.
Offie-nominated Beth Burrows returns with a sequel to her critically-acclaimed one-woman show Sirens of the Silver Screen, which shone a light on the lives Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. This time, Burrows is delving into the lives of the major male stars of the golden age for five performances across three days from 15 to 17 October 2021.
Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra dominated the stage and screen in the mid 20th century. But beside and behind these golden gentlemen were a plethora of powerful women who enabled their success. From irreplaceable dance partners to influential lovers, Fred, Gene and Frank did not do it alone.
Luck Be A Lady celebrates the men’s careers by performing the songs that made them shine and sharing the inside scoop on the stories that swirled around them, whilst bringing the women out of the shadows and into the spotlight.
Director Mark Giesser returns after teaming up with Burrows on Sirens. He has written, produced and directed numerous Off-West End and Off-Broadway shows including the recent production of Call Me Madam, also at Upstairs at the Gatehouse. Luck Be A Lady previewed at the White Bear Theatre earlier this year.
