After success last November at Highgate’s Upstairs at the Gatehouse, Beth Burrows’ astonishing one-woman cabaret Sirens of the Silver Screen, celebrating the lives and songs of Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, returns this summer for three weeks at London’s Tabard Theatre from 26 June to 14 July 2018.
A new adventure into old Hollywood in song and story.
Judy, Audrey and Marilyn – this sisterhood of stunning starlets lit up the silver screen for decades and kept tongues wagging with their scandalous off-screen antics. Prepare to be transported to a world of Old Hollywood glamour, where fame, fate and misfortune collide in glitz, glamour and grim truths. These femme fatales live again as Beth Burrows, directed by Mark Giesser, takes on each famous woman, performing their most loved songs and shedding light on the shadowy secrets that stalked their careers.
“Sirens of the Silver Screen assures us that these women are not just pin-ups, but tragic victims of Hollywood. Sensitively directed by Mark Giesser, each song set off as many tears as genuine laughter.” Hiive ★★★★
Burrows created and performs in Sirens of the Silver Screen, which she has toured extensively internationally. Most recently on the London stage, she won critical acclaim for her title performance in The Lady With a Dog, Giesser’s new Jazz Age adaptation of Chekhov’s 1899 short story. The production premiered at the White Bear this past February before transferring to the Tabard, where it just completed its extended season on 7 April.
Director and producer Mark Giesser has written, directed and produced extensively in both Off-Broadway and London Fringe venues. In addition to Sirens of the Silver Screen and The Lady With a Dog, his recent productions include the UK premiere of Alan Alda’s Radiance: The Passion of Marie Curie, and the 60th anniversary UK revival of the stage play of Gigi.
The Tabard is an intimate, 96-seat theatre close to Turnham Green tube station in Chiswick, London. It opened in 1985 above the Tabard pub, a historic and still-thriving local landmark. It quickly built a strong reputation for new writing. Over the years, the Tabard Theatre has played a key role in the development of London fringe theatre, highly acclaimed for its professional work and extremely popular within the community of west London.
Sirens of the Silver Screen runs from 26 June to 14 July 2018 at the Tabard Theatre, 2 Bath Road, London W4 1LW, with Tuesday to Saturday evening performances at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £18 (concessions £15). CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE!
