Here’s our guide to some of the familiar faces that you can expect to see on stage this year…
Emilia Clarke in The Seagull at the Playhouse Theatre: The Game of Thrones actress is set to make her West End stage debut in Jamie Lloyd’s production of Chekhov’s classic play. Playing at the Playhouse Theatre from March, this production features a new adaptation by Anya Reiss.
Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act at the Eventim Apollo: Reprising her role as Deloris Van Cartier, Whoopi Goldberg is back in one of the most anticipated revivals of the year. Back in London for a limited time only over the Summer, the production is also set to star Jennifer Saunders as Mother Superior.
David Mitchell in Upstart Crow at the Gielgud Theatre: Catch the popular BBC sitcom on stage, with David Mitchell starring as Will Shakespeare, this is a chance to catch Ben Elton’s comedy as it has never been seen before. The production begins performances in February.
Daniel Radcliffe in Endgame at the Old Vic Theatre: Catch Daniel Radcliffe on stage from 27 January in this production of Samuel Beckett’s play. This production is part of a double bill, running along with Rough For Theatre II which is set to star Jane Horrocks and Karl Johnson.
Imelda Staunton in Hello Dolly! at the Adelphi Theatre: Imelda Staunton is set to reunite with director Dominic Cooke following their collaboration on Follies at the National Theatre. The musical features music and lyrics by the legendary Jerry Herman (La Cage aux Folles, Mack and Mabel, Mame) and book by Michael Stewart (42nd Street, Mack and Mabel, Barnum).
Beverley Knight in The Drifters Girl at the Garrick Theatre: It was announced last year that the singer is set to star in brand new musical charting the story of The Drifters and their female music manager – who stuck with them through the highs and lows of their career. It is set to head to the West End in the autumn following a run in Newcastle.
Jake Gyllenhaal in Sunday at the Park With George at the Savoy Theatre: Heading to London for a strictly limited season from June, Jake Gyllenhaal will be reprising his role as painter Georges Seurat and Annaleigh Ashford as Dot.
Rosalie Craig in City of Angels at the Garrick Theatre: Following her successful turn in the revival of Company, Rosalie Craig is set to star in the West End transfer of Josie Rourke’s production of City of Angels. The Olivier Award-winning production is also set to star Hadley Fraser, Theo James, Rebecca Trehearn, Jonathan Slinger with Nicola Roberts and Vanessa Williams.
Michael Ball in Hairspray at the London Coliseum: With this feel-good show heading back to London for a limited season, it seems only right that Michael Ball returns as well to reprise his Olivier Award winning performance as Edna Turnblad.
Jennifer Saunders in Blithe Spirit at the Duke of York’s Theatre: As well as Sister Act at the Eventim Apollo, Jennifer Saunders is also set to star in this revival of Noel Coward’s play, transferring to London following a run at the Theatre Royal in Bath.
