I love it when the theatre perfectly fits the show. Artists can overcome a wrong space, but there’s gleeful concord when it suits this well. The vast new hangar-like Troubadour uses all its height and industrial chic to convey New York 1899 in Newsies: fire-escapes, iron balconies, vast billboard for the Santa Fe railroad, walls all newsprint and windows and washing lines.

‘You can’t resist this production’s charm’: EUGENIUS! – The Other Palace ★★★★★
The songs are infuriatingly catchy in Eugenius!, they stay with you for days. Its cool cast is energetic and engaging and you can’t resist this production’s charm.
‘A full-on cheese fest of all things brilliant about the 1980s’: EUGENIUS – The Other Palace ★★★★★
I saw and loved Eugenius! back in 2016 at its premiere concert at the London Palladium, so I was very excited when I read it was returning to The Other Palace. I’m pleased to say I stand by my initial review – I absolutely adored this, unique, hilarious, feel-good show.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring ★★★★
This Irish and UK premiere tour production of the musical comedy, The Addams Family was an entertaining and fast-paced production of Andrew Lippa’s funny musical about a less than conventional family and its ancestors. During the overture; a finger-clicking hand appeared through the letter box;
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring ★★★★
This show is a must-see for all, with a mixture of pure wit, funny lines and the occasional sexual innuendo underpinned by a fabulous musical score, everything hit the right notes, especially the actors.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring
The story centres around a grown-up Wednesday’s newfound romance, with the Addamses preparing to welcome the family of her new boyfriend for dinner. However, there is a secret looming that threatens the foundations of multiple relationships, and as the night descends into chaos more destructive secrets are revealed.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring
Diego Pitarch’s set is constantly changing and extremely layered but doesn’t look overcrowded or messy and the Gothic feeling is well achieved.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring
Sad to say, what I’m saying is that I was not a fan of The Addams Family at all. After a cracking opening number which promises oh so much, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s book grinds to a juddering halt in a first half which does nothing but interminably set the scene.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring
These are the skeletons you want in your closet. In Addams Family Musical, Samantha Womack brings unexpected warmth to Morticia – is that a good thing? – and Cameron Blakeley’s Gomez, Carrie Hope Fletcher’s sensational Wednesday and Les Dennis’s baleful romantic Uncle Fester are all prime turns.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring
From the moment the overtures commences with the iconic clicks from the cartoon/TV series the audiences are not only on side but clicking along. The story, characters and settings are iconic. But with such a cultural resonance of course comes great expectations.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY – Touring
Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s book features a somewhat conventional love story, as daughter Wednesday wants to marry her more commonplace boyfriend Lucas Beineke. This involves enlisting the help of father Gomez, much to the chagrin of mother Morticia.

Diary of a Theatre Addict: Doing the timewarp again, revisiting Gypsy on TV, and catching up with Linda
I’ve been out and about over the pre- and post-Christmas week, including trips to Brighton, Manchester and Leeds, with lots of catching up to do in London, too.
OLIVER! – Newbury
It is a rare treat to visit Newbury’s charmingly situated Watermill Theatre and Luke Sheppard’s Oliver! more than makes the journey worthwhile. On arrival and in one of the most innovative mise-en-scenes, as the audience mingle on the lawn outside sipping Pimms and G&Ts, the cast’s ragamuffin kids dart about, not picking pockets but offering to shine shoes for a sixpence. It’s a charming touch.
