High Fidelity stomps along unmemorably with great goodwill and a three-piece band overhead, and moments of soul or hare-krishna pastiche are wittily done
Based on both a real-life story and Jeff Pope’s Bafta award-winning ITV drama, Cilla the Musical brings to life the story of Priscilla White, a teenage girl from Liverpool whose dreams turned to reality as she became one of the most loved stars of the 1960s and most popular entertainers of all time.
This story of the girl next door who did good, against the backdrop of music that truly stands the test of time, will warm your heart, make you smile, and ultimately leave you sad that we have lost a real “one-off” in Cilla.
This new production chronicles the Merseyside National Treasure’s rise to fame accompanied by the hits of not only Cilla herself, but the other bands of the time.
One feature of the production which thoroughly deserves a mention is the set design, the brainchild of Gary McCann and lighting designer Nick Richings.
Mersey hard to beat: Step inside, love, and see the triumphs and tragedies on the way to Cilla Black becoming an entertainment legend.
It has been announced that Andrew Lancel and Carl Au will join the cast of the world premiere of the new Cilla Black bio-musical, which opens at the Liverpool Empire on 7 September 2017.
