We have released our latest episode of The Show People Podcast in memory of Daniel ‘Dani’ Bolton (1990 – 2018). Thank you to everyone who sent in their beautiful stories about Dani Bolton.
In their latest touring production, Ken Ludwig’s musical comedy, Crazy For You, Paul Hart and the Watermill Theatre have enhanced a much-loved classic with flights of fanciful footwork and an electric cast of actor-musicians.
There’s a lot to enjoy in this production of Crazy for You which brings a great deal of talent to the stage and shows it off well. It’s just that it gets caught up in the fiddly bits of the story when bigger, bolder strokes could serve the plot better.
We caught up with television and theatre performer Claire Sweeney as she prepared to take on the role of Irene Roth in the UK tour of Crazy For You, alongside Casualty and Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Chambers and Olivier Award nominee Charlotte Wakefield.
Jamie Wilson and Gavin Kalin are delighted to announce that Claire Sweeney will take over the role of ‘Irene’ in the national tour of the Watermill Theatre’s acclaimed production of Crazy For You. Claire joins Tom Chambers who plays ‘Bobby’ and Charlotte Wakefield who plays ‘Polly’ from 16 January 2018 at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury.
Adding to the fundraising efforts already established, actor Giles Terera and producer Danielle Tarento have put together a theatrically inclined evening of song, dance and comedy in aid of those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
The tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire was a devastating loss but a small mercy has been the way in which so many have responded in offering various means of help and support. Adding to this remarkable group are Giles Terera and Danielle Tarento, who have combined forces to speedily put together Songs and Solidarity – a West End fundraising gala evening of song, dance and comedy for the hundreds of families made homeless and the relatives of those who lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire.
And because things come in threes, here’s the news about West End Sings’ Christmas single ‘If We Only Have Love’ by Jacques Brel. Released to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Childline and all proceeds will go to the charity. The track was officially released on Friday 9th December.
Scrumptious, truly: The famous car is big, gleaming and flies just as it should in the new production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre until Oct 15, but the surrounding musical has a much more homely feel to it.
Charlotte Wakefield and Jos Vantyler will join the cast of the UK tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from October 2016. Wakefield will be playing the role of Truly Scrumptious and Vantyler takes the role of Childcatcher in the much-loved Sherman Brothers musical, which continues to tour with dates until 4 February 2017.

Welcome to the Sixties! Courtesy of this bubbly and lively production of Hairspray, currently on its UK tour.
Stylish: The power of dance, song and big hair are used to heap scorn on all kinds of prejudice as Hairspray returns for a week-long flash of brio and fun at the Edinburgh Playhouse, as part of its ongoing tour.
Based on the classic 1988 film and subsequent Tony award-winning Broadway production this is an all-singing, all-dancing delight of a show. It’s the story of a larger-than-life teenager who is fighting both sizeism prejudices and trying to bring colour integration into a wholesome 1960s early evening entertainment programme. This effervescent teen, Tracy Turnblad, falls in love and has a few scrapes along the way, which makes for a super fun entertaining show.
