Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was the big winner at this year’s Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards, taking home three prizes, while elsewhere Glenda Jackson, Billie Piper and Stephen Dillane all won acting prizes.

Recalling the year past, which is de rigueur for those of us who have spent too many nights in darkened rooms, I’m struck again by the richness and talent of so many shows I’ve seen, particularly in the smaller and Off-West End and Fringe venues.
NEWS: Sheffield Theatres win big at 2016 UK Theatre Awards
UK Theatre has announced the winners of the UK Theatre Awards 2016 – the only awards to honour outstanding achievement in performing, producing and management in theatres throughout the United Kingdom. Sheffield Theatres is the big winner for its two Crucible musical productions of SHOW BOAT and FLOWERS FOR MRS HARRIS, nabbing five prizes in total.
