COVID has created unusual detours that producers and performers have been forced to navigate; and it has sometimes opened new doors in the process
‘Deeply effective & emotionally engaging’: BKLYN THE MUSICAL – Lambert Jackson Productions (Online review)
BKLYN the Musical is assured, confident and dynamic, while staying true to its source material. I thoroughly enjoyed its innovation, cleverness and attention to detail.
‘A real triumph of a production’: BKLYN THE MUSICAL – Lambert Jackson Productions (Online review) ★★★★★
Mark Schoenfeld and Barri McPherson’s modern fairytale musical BKLYN the musical is evocatively brought to life in Dean Johnson’s stylish production.
‘Each performance is well worth seeing’: SECRET SOCIETY OF LEADING LADIES – Barn Theatre (Online review)
The Secret Society of Leading Ladies is the latest initiative from the Barn Theatre and it gives you, the viewer, the power to create your own concert.
‘Karimloo’s voice remains a thing of wonder’: BROADWAY @ LEICESTER SQUARE – Ramin Karimloo
The Broadway @ The Leicester Square brand is one which surfaces infrequently but always pays rich rewards when it does. Having attracted Patti LuPone, then Audra McDonald and John Barrowman into the intimate surroundings of an informal chat and sing-song arrangement with Seth Rudetsky, it is now Ramin Karimloo’s turn to deliver such a boutique concert.
‘Truly glorious in this well-rounded Proms version’: WEST SIDE STORY – Royal Albert Hall ★★★★
The score of West Side Story was performed by a wonderful cast and the outstanding John Wilson Orchestra at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
‘A wonderful, chilled out, musical night’: WEST END LIVE LOUNGE – The Other Palace ★★★★
The West End Live Lounge concerts are truly joyous to be a part of because they not only celebrate the fantastic talent the West End has to offer but raise money for fantastic causes.
INTERVIEW: In Conversation With… Fiddler on the Roof’s Emma Kingston
I’m Jewish, so growing up, Fiddler was always being quoted around the house. I used to watch the film with my grandma.
BOOK REVIEW: Fiddler on the Roof-inspired After Anatevka by Alexandra Silber
Not just a writer, but a renowned actress both here in the UK and across the pond, Alexandra Silber has successfully made an incredible transition from stage to page with her debut novel, After Anatevka.
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF – Chichester
If I Were A Rich Man, I would fund this production’s transfer to the West End right this minute.
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF – Chichester
Though my life has long been filled with musicals, Fiddler on the Roof has never been the one. I’ve only ever seen it the once (2013’s touring version) and though I quite enjoyed it then, I can’t say I was hankering after seeing another production.
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF – Chichester
Omid Djalili steps up to the pivotal role of Tevye the milkman. Married to Golde and with 5 daughters (3 of marriageable age) Djalili captures a hen-pecked, hardworking weariness of the poor pious family man who dreams of maybe, just a small fortune.
HONEYMOON IN VEGAS – West End
In the swish surroundings of the London Palladium, it was hard not to be entirely seduced by the lush sound of a 30-strong orchestra (under the musical direction of Freddie Tapner), a chorus of 16 up-and-coming performers and a main cast of bona fide West End stars directed by Shaun Kerrison.
Festive news #2 – Christmas Concert by Music Theatre Masterclass
Also giving up precious time before Christmas in aid of a good cause, is this motley crew to the left. Rufus Hound will be hosting a concert featuring them at The Actor’s Church in Covent Garden in aid of Children with Cancer UK on Sunday 18th December from 7.30pm.
CEILI O’CONNOR: THE UNDERSTUDY – Century Club
What better way to showcase Ceili O’Connor’s cabaret than as The Understudy – treating a packed audience at the Century Club to a whirl through many of the numbers that she had evidently honed to perfection, though enchantingly, giving each of these classic songs a delightful re-imagining.
