Pitlochry Festival Theatre and the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh in association with Naked Productions have announced the casts for its three forthcoming Sound Stage plays.
THE STEAMIE – Edinburgh ★★★★
Tony Roper’s play about women in a 1950s public washhouse on Hogmanay has proved a bona fide modern classic, and is now on a 30th anniversary tour produced by Neil Laidlaw and Jason Haigh-Ellery.
GLORY ON EARTH – Edinburgh
Extreme care has been lavished on the Lyceum’s Glory on Earth. It has a clarity to its storytelling and performances, backed up by some excellent staging, but never engages the heart or mind as fully as it promises.
THE WINTER’S TALE – Edinburgh
Lucid and engaging, the Lyceum’s Scottish-set production of The Winter’s Tale has much to recommend it, even if it does not quite convince.
