Book-ended by its ever-popular signature song, this is a fantastic feel-good show for people who remember the popular film with its memorable big hit songs or for those who just want an entertaining night of light-hearted escapism (which, judging by the public reaction, was 99% of the audience).
Though at the moment it looks quiet, I have finally got a draft schedule together for my time in Edinburgh, and it seems as if my plan to ease myself in has just gone out of the window… It’s going to be a hectic week for me up there, but it has to be done!
For a feelgood, heart-racing, toe-tapping story to feel so joyless, despite the best efforts of the cast, seems like a huge wasted opportunity. Reach for the DVD rather than your dancing shoes.
Ben Adams found fame as the lead singer in the pop group A1, but since then has been writing and producing for various artists, as well as working on his own music, starring in the UK tour of Flashdance and writing the new musical Eugenius!
Hannah Chissick has managed to create a show in Flashdance which captures the flavour of the 1980s and the spirit of the original film, really focusing on the dancing element and celebrating it which makes it a joy to watch.
Flashdance isn’t the most astounding piece of theatre but it’s high energy from start to finish with some memorable songs that’ll definitely get stuck in your head.
