“Vivien fucking Leigh!” An opening statement that certainly makes its feelings clear, in Keith Merrill’s Irrelevant, now on at the Seven Dials Playhouse and starring stage and screen stalwart Debbie Chazen.
‘Elizabeth McGovern captures the mercurial complexities of Ava Gardner’: AVA: THE SECRET CONVERSATIONS – Riverside Studios
Beautiful, sexy and luminous are words most associated with Hollywood starlets of the 1940s, 50s and 60s, and indeed they were, but they were also talented and savvy movie actors who commanded the screen.
PRISM – Hampstead Theatre
Terry Johnson’s new play is a deeply felt and typically witty look at the cinematographer Jack Cardiff.

THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE – Royal Court
The beauty of fiction is that its stories have both compelling shape and deep meaning — they are dramas in which things feel right and true and real. The trouble with real life is that it’s the opposite: it is messy, frequently shapeless and often meaningless.

To coincide with her current tour, Liza Pulman has released an album entitled Liza Pulman Sings Hollywood, and it’s really worth a listen. The Diva from trio Fascinating Aida, has included a selection of classic Hollywood movie tracks on the list and none of them disappoint. A Tuesday in Panama
It’s a Tuesday in January and I’m watching a flock of pelicans dive for supper in the fish-rich gulf of Panama: the sun is so blinding I have to retreat into the air-conditioning of the cabin as it’s pushing 90 degrees on the balcony. In England there’s up to a foot of snow and Heathrow […]
