Make no mistake, this is a world class Passion, and one which any Sondheim nut, or indeed anybody who wants to see a collection of remarkable talents at the top of their game, would be mad not to make the journey to the Hope Mill Theatre Manchester for.

And so here it is… my top 10 musicals of the decade. It turned out to be a slightly emotional journey. But it turns out musicals meant a lot in that time and I’ll fight anyone who says musicals aren’t a serious artform.
‘Elevated by an outrageously good ensemble’: FALSETTOS – The Other Palace
Judging the production at face-value though, Falsettos is well sung, ultra-smart and ultimately gutting. Those who buy a ticket will have plenty to look forward to.

Though not without some problems, Into The Woods is nonetheless an ambitious and entertaining show, which puts an interesting new spin on a classic whilst retaining the wit and charm of the original. Worth a visit for fairy tale family fun.

A disjointed (and incredibly lengthy) production that takes all of the fantasy out of the musical, making it a wooden watch in more ways than one.

SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE – The Other Palace
It says much for the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) that they have amongst their young company the talent and resource to deliver what is unquestionably an impressive take on this most adult of musicals.

NEWS: US cast start rehearsals for Fiaso’s Into the Woods at Menier
Rehearsals start this week in New York for innovative and ground breaking theatre company Fiasco’s enchanting reinvention of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s masterpiece Into The Woods. Both Sondheim and Lapine will join the company in rehearsal this week. The production opens on 12 July 2016 at the Menier, with previews from 1 July, and runs until 17 September. Casting of the original US company has also now been confirmed.

With a notoriously challenging musical score that makes even highly accomplished musicians run for the hills, the Exchange makes Into the Woods look like a walk in the park. Laden with wit, plenty of trees and stellar performances throughout – the execution and delivery of this contemporary fairytale adventure is superb.
