Matthew Perry’s The End of Longing becomes Playhouse’s most successful play

The End of Longing, written and starring Matthew Perry has become the Playhouse Theatre’s most successful play to run at the theatre, it has been announced. As it approaches the end of its run on 14 May 2016, the production directed by Lindsay Posner has had over two million sales, with more than 62,000 tickets sold and 12,000 of those who visited were first-time attendees to the world of theatre.

Its fame rolls before it: a debut play, premiered in London by Matthew Perry. To a generation of young adults (and to many far younger, thanks to ceaseless repeats) he is “Chandler from Friends”. Moreover, Perry has openly talked about his alcoholism, amphetamine use and rehab, and contributes to allied causes. And the play itself, in which he stars, is about four of his contemporaries – the Friends generation now rising forty – living in New York and still not settled in life.

Christina Cole (The Magistrate, The Lightening Play), Jennifer Mudge (Into The Woods, Dutchman) and Lloyd Owen (Good People, The Bodyguard) will join the internationally acclaimed actor Matthew Perry (Friends, The Odd Couple) to complete the cast in the World Premiere of his playwriting debut, The End of Longing, at the Playhouse Theatre, London, from 2 February – 14 May 2016.
