Circa might be best known in the UK for its sophisticated grown-up circus but, this year, the legendary Aussie company has brought one of their dedicated children’s shows – Wolfgang’s Magical Musical Circus – over to our shores.
All set to Mozart’s powerful and beautiful score, Opera North’s Don Giovanni is a really entertaining night out for seasoned opera lovers or those, like me, who are new to the genre.
Now back at the National’s Olivier Theatre until 24 April 2018, Michael Longhurst’s production of Amadeus stars Adam Gillen and Lucian Msamati as Mozart and Salieri. Here’s what critics have made of the production’s return to London…
VoiceArc’s sci-fi reworking of Don Giovanni, at Broughton St Mary’s Church, lifts itself on the voices of its talented performers despite some questionable set design. With music by Mozart and a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, the opera tells of a libertine nobleman, based on the legendary Don Juan.
Peter Shaffer’s play about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri has returned to the National theatre where it premiered in 1979. Lucian Msamati and Adam Gillen star as Salieri and his nemesis.
The new production of Mozart and Lorenzo da Ponte’s classic opera Così Fan Tutte has attracted no shortage of controversy. After its premiere in Aix-en-Provence in France in July, the organisers of the Edinburgh International Festival wrote to all ticket holders offering a refund “due to the adult nature of some of the scenes” and its unsuitability for younger audiences.
