Webborn and Finn’s cracking new musical The Clockmaker’s Daughter receives a delectable cast recording treatment that features the likes of Ramin Karimloo, Hannah Waddingham, Christine Allado and Fra Fee.
Set at the turn of the previous century in the unforgiving rural landscape of Cumbria, The Hired Man himself is the hard-working John Tallentire, a man who will turn to any aspect of working the land – above in the field or below in the mines – to support his family, but in difficult times and with the Great War approaching, life is tough.
Taken from Melvyn Bragg’s acclaimed description of England’s Lake District as the 19th century passed into the 20th, The Hired Man is a richly fruited glimpse of a way of life long since passed.
Highlights from the evening were excerpts from The Wonderful Musician, two specific numbers from Gould’s most recent project performed by Hywel Dowsell and new graduate Danny Michaels. The pair sang Music Turns Me On and As Long As I Have Music respectively, giving very different performances and taking the audience from hysterical laughter to silence and awe.
