In August it all kicks off, the 70th anniversary of Edinburgh Festival Fringe. For three weeks, Scotland’s capital, welcomes an explosion of creative energy from around the globe.
NEWS: Network of Independent Critics 2017 Edinburgh participants announced
Each critic will see a minimum of 15 performances within their specialist area, and their responses may include traditional written reviews, blogs, vlogs, podcasts, tweets and visual responses. Last year, over 400 reviews were produced by 19 participating critics, as well as additional social media content and reportage.
BLOCKED – Brighton
If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. That’s Laura Curnick’s mantra anyway. Stand-up comic, her career is taking off, until she melts down on stage, confronted by the fact that she can’t have kids. Caroline Byrne’s Blocked charts Curnick’s journey through three separate stand-up gigs, from mocking mothers, pregnancy and children to lamenting that she can’t experience any of them herself.
UNDER MY THUMB – Brighton
A converted metal shipping container is an appropriate theatre for Under My Thumb, a show that traps six women in a prison cell without ever revealing why. Cassiah Joski-Jethi eludes to it in her script and the audience are left to fill in the gaps.
