‘Excellence continues to abound throughout’: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF – West End ★★★★★
With its first major cast change since opening – as well as a shift across the Thames – Trevor Nunn’s Fiddler On The Roof remains one of London’s musical theatre jewels.
‘Andy Nyman does sterling work to bring Tevye off the page’: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF – West End ★★★
Andy Nyman does sterling work to bring Tevye off the page, breaking the fourth wall to chat with the Almighty, and rubbing his arthritic joints to punctuate Sheldon Harnick’s lazy ‘deidle deidle deidle dumb’ lyrics in ‘If I Were A Rich Man’.
‘Imaginative yet also reassuringly traditional’: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF – Menier Chocolate Factory ★★★★★
In eschewing any trendy political statement to hang around his work, Nunn has made it all the more poignant and powerful. Deservedly sold out for the rest of its Menier run, his Fiddler On The Roof is a must-see musical.

‘I left it feeling moved & thoughtful’: ROTHSCHILD & SONS – Park Theatre
In a time of Holocaust memory and an uneasy sense of reanimated antisemitism, Rothschild& Sons at the Park Theatre reminds audiences of the troubled, talented, vigorous history of the Jewish diaspora in Europe.
Rothschild & Sons Q&A podcast: Why didn’t Sheldon Harnick & Jerry Bock write together again?
Other topics covered included why the creatives wanted to revisit the story of the Rothschilds after more than forty years, the indelible mark our family makes on us, the actors’ approaches to their characters (and whether Robert taught Gary anything about Nathan Rothschild), differences in US versus UK reactions and a fair bit about the real Rothschilds today.
‘Robert Cuccioli brings a touch of quality’: ROTHSCHILD & SONS – Park Theatre
At the heart of the story of Rothschild & Sons at the Park Theatre, London is a family and race trying to carve out a place for themselves in history.
‘Robert Cuccioli is a vocally charismatic addition to London’s leading men’: ROTHSCHILD & SONS – Park Theatre
I wanted to know more what happened to the boys’ differing careers – banking houses in London, Paris, Vienna, Naples – and how did they get into wine? Actually, that’s a fabulous story worthy of a musical in itself.
‘Its message is timeless’: ROTHSCHILD & SONS Park Theatre ★★★★
The production of Rothschild & Sons at the Park Theatre is another example of London’s Off-West End at its finest, seeing a relatively obscure musical dusted down and shipped across the Atlantic.

BOOK REVIEW: After Anatevka
Alexandra Silber’s first novel After Anatevka is a carefully crafted study into love and life in Russia in the early twentieth century. Much like Marc Chagall was to paint enchanted images of that era, so too do Silber’s words offer a painstaking picture of a world long since disappeared.

ON BROADWAY: Fiddler on the Roof
Bartlett Sher’s interpretation of Fiddler on the Roof casts fresh eyes over one of the most beloved shows in the canon. Sheldon Harnick’s lyrics remain as written, but much of the dance has been deliciously expanded, transforming a 20th century classic, about 19th century Russia, into a 21st century masterpiece.
