The full cast for Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical, joining Arinzé Kene in the title role, has been announced. The world premiere musical begins performances at London’s Lyric Theatre on 1 October 2021 with an opening night on 20 October.

There’s superlative work from Gyre & Gimble’s puppetry, Loren O’Dair and James Alexander-Taylor’s work with the wolf is exceptional, and the whole show is just as satisfying and challenging and complex and beautiful as I remembered. Recommended.

There have been a number of reincarnations of the show which always garner solid box office sales but sadly I feel this is purely because of the cult popularity as opposed to the quality of production. There’s nothing I can precisely pinpoint that’s bad about this production but I just feel that it doesn’t transfer particularly well to stage.
DIRTY DANCING – Touring
With enormous shoes to fill for the cast, Johnny (Lewis Griffiths) and Baby (Katie Eccles) especially, the show won over the audience. Whilst honouring the story many know so well, ambitious and successful, they manage to make it their own.
The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin – Stratford East
Rosa Maggiora’s block set, while crisp and clean, seems altogether out of place for this production – too futuristic and alternative compared with a more traditional story of a girl that struggles with her identity in an ever-changing world.
