Are you a fan of Victorian melodrama? Are you a fan of Musicals? And finally, are you a fan of the work of ’The Lord’ – you know who I mean? If you can answer yes to at least two of these, then get yourself down to the Charing Cross Theatre where they are staging a revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman in White.
I LOVED LUCY – Arts Theatre
As wonderful as Matthew is, the evening really belongs to Sandra Dickinson. She really is Lucy. The voice, the mannerisms and the highly infectious laugh are all there.
SNAPSHOT – Hope Theatre
On the face of it, Jamie has it all. A handsome, successful and, let’s make no bones about it, pretty rich boyfriend. A fabulous fag hag and a nice older gentleman friend who shares his love of art and photography. But, this is not enough for our James.
HONK! – Union Theatre
It is springtime and in a rural farm, the feathered inhabitants are getting ready to meet the new generation. For Ida (Ellie Nunn) this means sitting for hours on end on the nest while her partner Drake (Leon Scott) wanders about enjoying himself.
THAT’S JEWISH ENTERTAINMENT – Upstairs at The Gatehouse
This lovely revue show takes its audience on a journey spanning over a hundred years. From the mass migration of Jews in the 19th Century, from the shtetl or Eastern Europe.
THE SOUTH AFREAKINS – Vaults
In most patriarchal societies, it is taken as fact that the men rule the proverbial roost. Of course, the truth is totally different.
HENRY V – Southwark Cathedral
Using a play within a play format, this version of Henry V begins in a field hospital in France in 1915 a group of French and English patients decide to put on a version of Henry V.
HIP – Vaults
Remember the old song,”if you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise”? Well, let’s bring it right up to date with some new lyrics so, altogether now “If you go down to the Vaults this month you’re sure of a big surprise”.
THE LONG ROAD SOUTH – King’s Head Theatre
The 31st August 1965 is not a really notable day in history. True, it is Independence Day in Trinidad and Tobago and is also the Saint’s Day for Saint Aidan of Lindisfarne, San Abbondio, Saint Raymond Nonnatus, but otherwise not that much to write home about. However, for the family at the centre of Paul Minx’s play The Long Road South at the King’s Head Theatre, Islington 08-31-65 is a day none of them will ever forget.
NUTCRACKER! THE MUSICAL – Pleasance
Since first being performed in 1892, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky has become a staple of the Christmas season for ballet and dance companies throughout the world – heck I even own three different DVDs of performances. The romantic story of the boy, turned into a toy, by bad magic, being rescued by a beautiful girl matched with Tchaikovsky’s immortal music make a perfect combination and really bring the Christmas season to life. In the countless productions around, possibly the most unusual is Nutcracker! The Musical which has just started a Christmas run in The Pleasance Theatre, Islington.
THE SCREENWRITER’S DAUGHTER – Leicester Square Theatre
American screenwriter, director, producer, playwright, journalist and novelist Ben Hecht was justly honoured not only with the first Oscar awarded for a screenplay in 1927, but in a career spanning well over forty years, has been lauded with every honour that such a writer can receive, including a posthumous induction into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

THE WHITE FEATHER – Union Theatre Until 17th October
★★★★
By Terry Eastham @Terry_Ea
“The White Feather” is an intense and emotional musical with some very moving songs and a very strong story that does nothing to hide an ignominious moment in British history. ” a fine musical with a poignant story to tell”.
” Abigail’s intensity and emotion as she does everything to clear and defend her brother is truly fantastic to see”
