The Young Vic is celebrating its 50th birthday and while I’ve only been visiting since 2007-ish, I’ve seen many fantastic and memorable plays there in that time.
This year’s Olivier Awards winners certainly highlighted the wonderful diversity in theatre this year – now can we please broadcast the full ceremony?
Come From Away, Company and The Inheritance led the way with four awards each at the Olivier Awards 2019 with Mastercard, announced at a ceremony tonight (Sunday 7 April) at London’s Royal Albert Hall, hosted by Jason Manford.

Matthew Lopez’s epic two-part drama The Inheritance was the big winner at the 2018 Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards held today at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London’s West End, hosted by Critics’ Circle Drama Section chairman Mark Shenton.

The winners of the 64th Evening Standard Theatre Awards have been announced, with double wins for the National Theatre’s Antony & Cleopatra and the West End productions of Company and Hamilton.

A big week in London theatre, with three of the most anticipated openings of the autumn: Marianne Elliott’s new production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s 1970 musical Company, Matthew Lopez’s The Inheritance at the Noel Coward and the launch of Emma Rice’s new post-Globe company Wise Children with a show also called Wild Children, at the Old Vic.
The Inheritance at the Noel Coward Theatre has been rightly lauded as a major piece of 21st-century theatre and Lopez has a gift for crafting argument and dialogue with sensitivity and innate understanding.
It would be hard to imagine a play about young gay lives that speaks more eloquently to older gay men than the moving, informative and often hilarious The Inheritance now transferred to the Noel Coward Theatre.

While I may see less, I still have plenty to say. So I thought I’d start with the shows I’ve seen and loved that have transferred (or are soon transferring) to the West End.
