Now confirmed to play its final performance on the 2nd September, here are five reasons why you need to see Rachel Kavanaugh’s production:
1. The Music: this is such an upbeat and playful musical, featuring songs such as ‘Pick Out a Simple Tune’ and ‘If the Rain’s Got to Fall’ that will have your feet tapping along and leave you with a song in your heart. Definitely one of the best soundtracks to own at the moment.
2. The Cast: this is such a strong cast, not least Charlie Stemp who dances and scampers his way across the stage with style and grace. Meanwhile, Emma Williams and Devon-Elise Johnson are equally as graceful and charming to watch, both delivering charismatic performances. But to put it simply all of the cast are brilliant and a joy to watch from beginning to end.
3. The Choreography: Andrew Wright’s wonderfully energetic and elegant choreography not only captures the era in which the musical is set perfect, but also the spirit and joyfulness of the musical as a whole. It is also amazing to watch the cast carrying out each move with (apparent) ease and grace that makes the audience want to get up and join in.
4. The Set: being a production that has plenty of different settings, the set is both practical and charming, transforming from a drapers shop to a garden party with ease and style. It also allows the dancing to take centre stage, with plenty of room to allow the choreography to have plenty of room to breathe and not appear cluttered.
5. The Book: written by Julian Fellowes, the book has plenty of humour, great character development and great pace that it is a disappointment when the show is over.
