Chris Hannan’s critically acclaimed political drama What Shadows receives its London premiere tonight (3 October 2017), following a UK tour and premiere last year at Birmingham Rep. Olivier and Tony Award winner Ian McDiarmid reprises his performance as Enoch Powell. Check out new production photos of him with the cast at London’s Park Theatre…
What Shadows, commissioned by Birmingham Rep, tells some of the story behind former Conservative MP Enoch Powell’s explosive 1968 ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech, bringing to life the community that inspired it and, 30 years later, looking at its effects on a young black woman, Rose Cruickshank, trying to make sense of her own life and identity. The woman sets out to meet Powell and get answers.
